This is Eternal Peasant, the new album from relatively new Joburg band, Motel Mari. They've been very sneaky in their approach to who physically buys their music - it's a process of elimination that omits anybody who does not have a vinyl player because it is one giant beautiful work of transparent musical art. Motel Mari officially launched in South Africa on 23 August 2012 but the international launch for the band, which consists of Joao Orrechia (various instruments and live looping), Tshepang Ramoba (Drums) and Mpumi Mcata (Guitar) of the Blk Jks, was in July this year.
I've listened to it and let's just say I feel like I'm one of the chosen ones. My friend, a music journalist, calls this album Post Genre i.e. it doesn't really fit into any contemporary genre. Go to this link to see + listen to for one of the songs Just Like A King. You can download the album on iTunes if you know, you don't have a record player.
