the most beautiful look book of 2011

Wednesday, December 28, 2011

This is the most beautiful look book I've seen in 2011.  It is the look book for Wild Fox Couture, which until a few minutes ago, I thought was an Australian brand.  It's actually an American brand started by friends Kimberly Gordon of one of my favourite blogs, ilovewildfox.com and Emily Faulstich.  Gosh they make dreamy clothing and even dreamier shoots.  I'm not a fan of the Western genre of film or literature (if there is such) but this just took my breath away.

Actually, now that I think of it, I used to watch The Quick and the Dead over and over when I was a teen.  I has such stars in my eyes for Leonardo di Caprio and Sharon Stone.  That was the only ''Western'' movie I liked, well that and Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman (dead).  Okay, so I dabbled in Western in my youth. This is the quality of look book Doreen and I will make for Mememe in 2012.  I might as well let the cat out of the bag - we will be working on a Mememe Range amongst other things in the new year. I truly cannot wait.
To see the rest of the shoot, go to the wild fox blog highlighted above or you can visit the website www.wildfoxcouture.com

Hell.Oh

I wonder if the fact that this being's name is Sepsenahki has anything to do with the serpents that make up her hair. My goodness she's beautiful!

Akuol de Mabior

I mean really.

She is easily my favourite model of the moment!

This is cool

I hardly flinch at magazine covers. My life is made up of looking at amazing images and I have become somewhat desencitised.  But I was pleasantly surprised the latest cover of Elle South Africa.  I went to the garry to get garbage bags or something and instead, came back with this. Saving it for the plane ride as I head home to East London tomorrow.

The cover girl is 16 Year old Katryn Kruger. I have no idea who she is. All I know is that she's a local girl, is in the Prada Resort 2012 Look Book and appeared on Calvin Klein and Givenchy runways.  Go girl. Can't wait to read more. www.elle.co.za

New huurrr

So of course the first real free moment I have (since as of tonight I am on holiday) has arrived and I am braiding my hurrrr! I've worn it naturally for the past week and a half and as romantic as the idea is, it's faaaaaking hard to manage and I just miss swishing some synthetic hair and having different styles every day. So. I've decided to ''take inspiration'' i.e. try my best to copy these hairstyles.  I am halfway through. The long and the short of it? Ouch! But who cares if I get to look as cute as Solange in this picture or as hot as Janet Jackson in Poetic Justice?

I die for these 90s box braids.  The pic at the bottom  with these two F.L.Y girls are soooo cool but would probably wear me down on day two.

:-/

Sooo err, I'm just gonna sneak these in here as if there's no missed blogging days.

Hannah and Sophie

Tuesday, December 13, 2011

Clearly I'm in yesteryear/vintage mode this morning. I came across these amazing images of Hannah Metz on the Hannah and Landon blog, taken by Sophie Davidson (who was born in 1990).

I WANT TO GO BACK TO YESTERDAY

If only I lived in a city where you could walk everywhere, in high heels, carrying your camera and looking like you've just stepped off a runway or movie set. Blogger Natalie Joos' vintage style and love for texture is just so cute.  Alllll these dresses are vintage. Swoooon.

Home Improvement

My BFF Nana and I have been slowly redoing our home with the help of a friend whose got an amazing eye, especially for all things retro which we are obsessed with.  We've lived in our place for two years and in those two years were both so obsessed with work we never really paid attention to our space, but now that we are both two years older and acquiring better tastes in life, we have decided to spend the next 6 months home improving.  Here are some of my favourite new pieces, including my slow bedroom renovation.

This is our little waiting room as you enter our house. Love these white and chrome chairs.  I bought the little tables at Decade and Wasteland last year and the sheep skin mats are the perfect degree of haughty, our decorator friend found them at one of his suppliers.
This chair is a refurbished cheapy, we've included elements of this teal colour (it's much darker than it appears) in other parts of the lounge, it's such a nice colour.
I adore these white vases which we got yesterday.  Our decorator bought these for himself but I managed to let him leave them at our house until further notice.  They go perfectly with these Normann Copenhagen metal bowls from Tonic Design.

And just to finish it off, murano glass ashtrays. Or are they ashtrays? I don't know but they were a nice touch and gift from our friend.
This is the first stage of refurbishment from my bedroom.  The wall colour was a boring beige and I have changed it to a beautiful rabbit + koala colour I kinda made up at the paint store. It's a bit darker in real life and it's a wonderful colour to wake up to.
I'm generally a heart and owl person so I want to get more of these ceramic hearts from Ceramic Matters.  Don't know where I'll find porcelain owls but the search is on, preferably white.
Our decorator got this beautiful table yesterday, it needed a bit of TLC when it arrived and I think he did a good job of it.
It goes well with my brass mirror.  So this is what I'm going to be using as a dressing table and working table in my room.  We are going to add a burgundy velvet chair or stool.
These side tables are temporarily living in my bedroom.  They belong to our decorator and he is taking them back but I am hoping to twist his arm and make them stay. They are so beautiful.
