Today's Video - Sophia Coppola for Marni at H&M
Wednesday, February 22, 2012
It's a cool video but I swear the way everyone on the net's going banana's over it I expected a little more. I like it though, it's true to her voyeurism.
Kate Bosworth for Vanessa Bruno
Monday, February 6, 2012
Every couple of months I visit French designer, Vanessa Bruno's website to look for those addictive fashion videos she's famous for. For the second time, Kate Bosworth stars in Bruno's videos, this time, Spring Summer 2012. As always, it's really moving imagery and brilliant cinematography. But I must admit, I still prefer the ones with Lou Doillon, like the one in the next post.
Lou Doillon for Vanessa Bruno SS10
This is my all time favourite fashion video. I know I posted it here two years ago but this kind of art never fades.
Me and Jamal playing dress up
Friday, February 3, 2012
Posing for pictures is highly not up my alley. The bloggers who take pics of their outfits are brave. But I had a pretty rad time taking pics with some stuff that Woolies sent me last week. I was playing dress up and Cuss Magazine's Jamal got me to pose like this :-) It was so much fun and I adore these little booties. Here's a link to the other pics he took and a little bit more about the clothes. Here I am wearing a Doreen Southwood top and Jane Sews Skirt both from MeMeMe. Sunglasses Stella McCartney at Sunglass Hut and the booties are R199 from Woolies.

A day without me

This cucumber cool shoot appeared in last month's issue of Marie Claire South Africa (not in this crazy order but it was either symmetry or synergy and symmetry won). It was shot by Brett Rubin and Styled by Nicole van Heerden. This model is 16. We love.
THIS SHOOT MADE ME FORGET THAT VALENTINES DAY CAN LEAVE SINGLE PEOPLE FEELING LIKE WILTY FLOWERS
Friday, January 20, 2012
The other day when I was feeling really shit about not being able to save the life of a dying baby bird that I found in Rosebank Mall, I bought the Elle Magazine because I just could not not with Michelle Williams looking amazing on the cover. But I failed to realise one crucial thing about the particular issue when I bought it: It was all about Valentines Day and Love kwatsha kwacima...and... People in Love and Love songs blah blah fish paste. So I prolonged opening it and instead spent the first 24 hours looking at the cover.
I am not in love and don't have a boyfriend so when I finally opened it, I was like...MMMM Let's go directly to the fashion. Boy was that a good move. I flipped open to this very shoot and voila, I was taken away on a magic bed of flowers and butterflies that made me forget all about my shoddy day. This is a really beautiful shoot. The concept, the fact that it's done in studio with amazing printed fabrics and of course, the clothing. I love this wall to wall flower trend. Well done to the lady responsible, Asanda Sizani who is Elle's Fashion Editor. Get the mag and go on the site to find out what happened behind the scenes. The butterflies are real by the way. Have a floral weekend.
What do you think of this beauty shoot?
Tuesday, January 17, 2012
I recently bought my monthly issue of Marie Claire South Africa. I sat down to read it and enjoyed the Kate Moss cover, the cover story, the fashion stories and all the other usual stuff that MC gets right more than 95% of the time. It's one of the few local magazines I make a point to purchase each month because I feel the publication speaks the language of the modern gentlewoman.
However, I stopped. Semi- aghast in all senses of the word. Wondering what it is I was looking at when I saw the above beauty shoot which also showcases Prada's 2012 Resort Collection. After reading and contemplating, I showed my friends the shoot and asked them what they thought. One is an award winning artist. One a lecturer in Art. One a stylist and the other a photographer. I couldn't read their thoughts beyond their expressions of narrowed eyebrows, compressed eyelids and pursed lips.
There are some great elements in the shoot. Like the concept, some of the clothing and the lips in the first and fourth picture. The rest, I really don't think was executed well at all. The first and continuous thought while looking at the shoot was that it seemed like some non-black person wanted to see what all these amazing pops of colour look on a black person and just applied them for fun, as a test, as if playing dress up at home. Yes we know that bright colours look better on black skin, but in moderation. This otherwise beautiful model in these images looks like the cross between a golliwogg and a minstrel. Like no consideration was applied to whether black women could actually wear these looks and be taken seriously. Was it a display of the actual colours against a skin that would expose them the best? Because if it was, then they have done the colours justice. They are beautiful colours. But together, I believe they are offensive to the intelligence of anyone who would want to apply them together in this way.
Am I being too harsh? What are your thoughts?
Hannah and Sophie

Clearly I'm in yesteryear/vintage mode this morning. I came across these amazing images of Hannah Metz on the Hannah and Landon blog, taken by Sophie Davidson (who was born in 1990).

Sweets for my eyes!

Before I even talk about this shoot, I would just like to apologiese for the the superlative ghastliness of the quality of these images. A 2.30 am feat in which I tore the pages out and took pics of them on my bedroom floor. I had asked Marie Claire to send me these images, which they did, the problem was that that they are pdf’s and blogger doesn’t like those. I tried to scan them but those came out as PDF’s too so this was the next best thing. There is a reason why people go to school to learn how to take good pictures. I mean no offense to the professionals who might gasp at the blatant glare of the flash on all of them.
But it's because I really really like this shoot in the latest Marie Claire South Africa. It’s shot by Damon Fourie, styled by Sharon Becker, Hair and Make-up by Algria Ferreira and the beautiful model is my new fave Akoul de Mabior from Ice Models. Thank god colour blocking is bloody over.
