HELLO NINAS

Finally, these wonderful clogs have landed in our hands.  We received 20 pairs of Nina Z clogs (I've BEEN talking about them) and sent ten pairs to our Cape Town store.  Both MeMeMe stores are now stocking these. At this stage, we are still testing them hence the limited range. If you like these, visit either of the stores and have a look at them. If you can't find your size, you're welcome to place an order and we should have another delivery of stuff in a few weeks. Or if you can't get to the shops, send us a mail about which pair you're interested in and we will try to hooks you up!  Or you can just go straight to the shop and buy a pair that's in your size.  They really are beautiful shoes. You can mail mili@mememe.co.za for more enquiries.

BLOG CRUSH: TAKE THAT MASON

I cannot describe my adoration for this adorable new blog! My friends Vie and Nandi are career savvy fashion fiends in their late 20s.  They each have adorable boys named Amani and Akani who exemplify the classic case of apples not falling far from the trees.  ''The boys'' have a blog called Take That Mason, a sly little jab at Kourtney Kardashian's uber stylish son, Mason, with pictures of their outfits and some ''who wore it best'' features.  I live and die for Suri's Burn Book so this is another reason to wake up and log on everyday. I love me some good looking kid fashion! Check it out and enjoy.

A CV, A VACANCY AND AN INTERNSHIP!

Friday, March 22, 2013

Hey guys

Well nothing really transpired from last week's appeal for suggestions on how to improve this mkokotela recruitment agency that I'm running and I've asked the universe for guidance. I shall wait. In the meantime, I'm just going to carry on with it the way it has been going with little bit of change.

This week, I have one strong CV's to post.  The others I've been receiving are mostly looking for PA positions, a lot of them who are qualified in other fields too but needing work experience.  There are too many to choose from and I am happy to send them through to anybody that might be looking for Personal Assistants.  Holler if you are interested.  The other one that I was going to post is from somebody who has fantastic work experience, references and I was salivating at the prospect of sharing it until I realised she lives in New York and is not even South African. I was like, ok cool, it's good to have that much reach and I would certainly love to help another human being but this platform at the moment is for South Africans as a result of our 40% unemployment rate and one of the biggest youth bulges in the world.  Anyway, here we go.

CV 1

''I'm smart, ambitious and am focused'', says the CV of one Johannesburg based Media Planner.  She is 30 years old and has 7 years experience in Media and Production planning, having recently spent the last 5 years working at Primedia-Unlimited Fashion Media as a production planner for Edgars and Red Square's fragrance clients.  She is currently unemployed and is looking for work in a similar field. Here is a breakdown of her experience:

Education

2002 - 2004 AAA School of Advertising: International Higher Diploma in Integrated Marketing
Communications - Specialized in Media Management , Marketing and Advertising

Work Experience

2011 - 2013 Primedia-Unlimited Fashion Media: Production Manager
Implementing the production process for all cosmetic and fragrance brands
                    Planning and Implementing production schedules
                    Regular Communication with print suppliers
Drawing up briefs/proofs of flighting reports
Responsible for getting client approval and sending off final artwork to print
Liaising with sales and design teams for production briefs
                    Coordinating campaign productions
Clients included Dior, Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana and Clinique

2006 - 2011 Red Cherry Media Holdings: Implementation Media and Production Planner
Planning and Implementing TV and Radio Schedules
Drawing up contracts after booking Radio and TV space with media owners
Media Planning for short format shows
Productions co-ordinating for interactive TV and radio products ADS UP, WOTZ UP
Scripting for production and competition telephone lines
Clients included AVBOB, African Bank, Eskom, Meltz, TruCape, MNet Cares

I was at a shoot last week and the editor of a local lifestyle magazine asked me if I know of any strong sales executives to sell advertising space for the magazine which has a readership of up to 1.5 million people.  I said I would put the word out there, so if you have experience in Advertising Sales and you're looking for a new job with a really wonderful team of women, send me a mail and I'll forward it to the editor.

In other opportunity news, Women's Health Magazine in Cape Town is looking for editorial interns. This is a great opportunity to gain work experience if you are a freshly laid graduate of journalism and media studies.  The internship is unpaid so you'll have to negotiate with mama and papa for a few extra months of living in the nest but these things usually open doors to real jobs sooner rather than later if you put in enough effort.  The intern will be doing research, assisting with general editorial tasks, write some features which they will be paid for and just getting experience within an editorial team.  If you'd like to apply for this, drop me a mail at missmillib@gmail.com.  You can also send me an email if you have any other query.

Have a lekker weekend.

OLD SCHOOL IS COOL

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

Nokia has recently launched a guerilla campaign in which they want to remind us of the good old days.  In the last couple of weeks, I have received sporadic hand delivered gifts that have made me smile as I remember my childhood. The first was a crap book ala the ones we used to keep in Std 4 with photographs of our friends, school trips, family and of course our fact files which included our favourite songs, lyrics included and our first crush or kiss.  The second was a floppy disk pot plant. How cool is that?  I haven't seen a floppy disk since 2002.  And my favourite little gift so far is this old school camera, what do they call those? Analogue cameras? I can't wait to play around with these.  So what's the whole point of this? Well I think they are about to launch the new range of Lumia phones and I think they want to highlight the key features of the new range using old school favourites.  I'm looking forward to seeing what the new phones. Finally, Nokia steps out!

LAWS OF THE MODERN WOMAN

Hehe that last one is so naughty and so true! I like this website. Don't agree with absolutely all of them but I still enjoy the existence of this Laws of the Modern Woman

I need your help

Friday, March 15, 2013

Hey guys

It's Friday again and it's CV time.

I must say, this CV thing is working and it's not working the way I wanted it to.  These CV posts get a lot of hits, sometimes higher than regular content, but there haven't been any connections after that first time I did it. I'm not getting employers saying they want this person or that person's contact details, which was the whole point of starting this.  What I am getting, is employers saying they need this kind of person or that kind of person, do I know anyone?  And when that happens, I send the CV's that I have through.  I'm still getting people sending their CV's, sadly a lot of very qualified people for PA positions and the like. So I'm not quite sure how to carry on with it, whether I should continue posting people's CV's or rather do posts that feature available positions that people can readily apply to.  I need your help and suggestions on how to make this thing work better, if at all.  I would really appreciate any ideas/suggestions in the comments below.

I have 3 CV's to post but not sure if it's worth it yet?

Thanks
MM

REMEMBER THIS DEAR SONG

When SABC was still watchable back in the 90s, SABC 1 was as obsessed with this song as I came to be.  It always used to play after uBold as a filler and I've loved Kadja Nin since.  They also used to love to show Anjelique Kidjo's Agolo a lot. Just thought I'd post this for memorie's sake. Having a bit of a bleh week and this song has kept me together.  Hope it takes you back.

DAILY DISHONESTY

Eish I am so guilty of this one.
Love this website, check out more daily dishonesties here

GOOD MUSIC IS COMING

Thursday, March 14, 2013

Gosh just when you think living in this town is a drag, something like this comes along.  Last week Sunday my two friends and I were so bored so bored so bored so bored so bored so bored we ended up going to (you're welcome to judge me) Rosebank Mall to try that Wakaberry stuff that everybody is obsessed with. Ok that shit is good jealous down. That is not the point of this post. This post is proof that there is a God and it likes good music because this is happening at the end of the month at Joburg's newest hipster free zone, King Kong on 28 March. Brought to us by the team from Post Post - Gazelle, Motel Mari and Dirty Parraffin will be performing in a show they call The Revolution Will be Remixed.  Tickets are R70 (which should be the price we pay the bands for just showing up. It should be much higher for what we will actually be getting) and there will also be performances by new artist Moonchild, who has been getting a lot of love from Okay Africa, and DJ's invizable and Freak Mawaza.  Find out more about this concert parrry on Facebook!

SMALL WORLD

So it turns out my girl Nina Z, the one that makes those beautiful clogs, styled the cover of Solange's EP, True, which I have been abusing for the past couple of weeks. And it just so happens that Nina sent me a mail yesterday saying she's just sent me some snail mail...

Theeeeeese and more are on their way to Joburg and Cape Town MeMeMe stores. In the famous words of Stanley Tucci in The Devil Wears Prada, ''Gird your loins!!!! Ladies, Gird those loins.
I will be standing on the rooftops with a loudspeaker when these arrive in a week.

Check out this really nice video

A few weeks ago I posted about Edun and Diesel's Studio Africa initiative where they have developed a denim range in Africa and are working with young creatives from across the continent.  Here's all those beautiful people featured in this video. I especially like the scene with Laurence and Sy.

I'M SORRY

Faux  Sure!!!!

PUNK & IVY

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

Oh to have clever friends.  My friends Bianca Miles and Khaya Sibiya have started a fashion label called Punk and Ivy.  But this isn't an ordinary meat and potatoes kind of label. There's a lot gravy to this. Punk and Ivy will sell their bespoke and ready to wear plural (unisex) clothing out of a customised Punk and Ivy mobile boutique or Motique in the form of an RV. Let us take a moment to confirm the coolness of that concept.

As in, this Motique will drive around Joburg selling the steeziest of steeze in clothing.  I went to see some of the stuff last Friday and the camo suit, printed jerseys and dungarees that I saw on the racks were awesome.  Punk and Ivy will offer bespoke design solutions for Joburg's fashion conscious as well as styling and buying services.  The Motique stocks next season's finds, door to door service with a fusion of local and internationally sourced garments, handmade shoes and collectable accessories.

I can't wait to see a huge black RV in the next couple of months. The first image is a sneak peek of the look book for menswear.

Obsessed

A feisty new member has joined my growing collection of perfume and I feel a little bad for the other bottles that I've been wearing it every day, even to bed, since last week.  Fendi, Italian makers of great shoes and handbags, have come out with a new range of fragrances under the name Fan di Fendi and my love for the Extreme Eau de Parfum is extreme.  I was in a daze last week listening to the presentation of this range to the fashion press at the Fendi store in Sandton, that I must confess I didn't catch every detail as I was too busy smelling and resmelling the sample card. Its fusion of oriental florals including Jasmine, Tangerine and Calabrian Bergamot with undertones of soft leather and Vanilla Absolute.  It's perfect and would make an amazing gift to yourself.  Or if you really love someone and don't mind that they should smell better than you on a night out, then you can spend the R705 or R1000 for the 50ml bottle on them. It is available in South Africa from next week Monday at Fendi Stores, as if we have like a few. I mean at the Sandton store.

AN OPPORTUNITY THAT COULD CHANGE THE RIGHT PERSON'S LIFE.

Monday, March 11, 2013

Good Morning friends, I know I said I would do this on Friday's only but this can't wait until Friday.  Here's an opportunity that could change the right person's life!

A high profile musician friend of mine is looking for a smart, dynamic, energetic ''yes I can do it'' kind of person to be her Personal Assistant. This person needs to have a balance of book smart and street smarts.  She or he will be required to manage a diary, Tweet and Facebook when necessary, write press releases, research fashion and beauty trends, source outfits, work long hours on the sets of shoots and concerts, organise and prepare meetings, often deal with media, fetch and carry anything from instruments to kids and do it with a great attitude. This person needs to be dynamic, eager to learn new things and take direction with diligence.  This job is the opposite of boring but the right candidate will have to work hard to ensure their growth and success in it.  Most importantly, this person needs to have a car or at least be able to drive!  You can start tomorrow if you're the right person for it.

Please email a short CV and a 200 word synopsis of who you are to missmillib@gmail.com by Friday 15 March at 12.00.

Good luck. If I didn't have a job, I would totally apply for this!

THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELLING CLOTHES YARD SALE

Thursday, March 7, 2013

Hey you guys, hope your week is feeling swell. I don't know how we got to Thursday already! Anyhoo! Hope you're not too busy on Saturday if you are in Joburg. I am cleaning out my closet and I have convinced some super stylish friends to participate in a little yard sale this weekend.  We are basically selling clothes that either do not fit us anymore or clothes that might find a better home with someone else at like redic prices! I'll probably be shopping from the stands of Lauren and Dawood Petersen, Zandi Tisani, Zonke Mthethwa and Chipo Mapondera. Because every time I see them, I basically take notes!

THE DAILY LIES WE TELL OURSELVES

I adore these. I was on Pinterest yesterday looking for some cool fonts for a poster et voila, I come across a page called Daily Dishonesties.  A knowing smile widened as I paged through and landed up on her website. I love simple ideas that are well executed. Thank you for this whoever you are. I guilty of all of these little non truths.
