TWO JUNIOR JOBSEEKERS LOOKING FOR WORK IN PRODUCTION AND PUBLISHING

Friday, April 12, 2013

Hey dolls

I don't know where the time is running off to, it seriously feels like it's already June! And it looks and feels it outside.  Time is not on my side this week, haven't had enough to look through all the CV's so it will be a skinny picking today of just one of them. Soz guys, it also happens to be SA Fashion Week.

CV 1

Today's first CV is from a 20 something year old woman who is currently unemployed and lives in Johannesburg.  After studying editing, visual effects, producing, directing and script writing at AFDA, she didn't finish her degree because of financial constraints but got just about enough of the basics to get her a job at Sello Twala Productions as a Junior Editor in 2012.  Her duties there included editing first cuts, final mix visual credits and digitizing footage.  While she was studying  at AFDA, she was working as a shop assistant at Tiaan Nagel at 44 Stanley where her duties included sales and assisting the designer. Her interest in fashion saw her as an intern at Glamour Magazine assisting stylists with fashion shoots, doing returns and sourcing, planning lookbooks and other general interny duties.  She would like to get back into production starting at the bottom and working her way up.  I know production companies are always looking for fresh people to match their budget cuts!

CV 2

This young woman also lives in Johannesburg and currently works as a writer and social media content contributor at a local online entertainment, culture and fashion website.  She writes entertainment stories from around the continent about music and fashion, she conducts research on various topics related to what the online mag is about and also co-ordinates photo shoots.  Correction, she doesn't actually work there, she has been an intern for the last year. Amandla is what you have if you're willing to work somewhere for almost a year and not get paid. That means a lot these days. Before her current ''job'', she worked as an assistant Art Director at Coalstove Productions where her duties included working on sets, ensuring performers were appropriately dressed in necessary props and costumes and where she learned the back end of producing television. While she was studying her Bachelor of Public Administration (Public Affairs) and Politics at the Walter Sisulu University, she tried her hand at retail and worked at Solo Walking Fashion, a clothing store in Northgate before working as a sales assistant at Ice Watches. She is currently looking for work in the entertainment and publishing industries.
