Strt Crd

Amongst the many activities I engaged in this weekend (mostly SA Fashion Week) this is the least that I actually remember fully! If it wasn't for these pictures, most would be a blur in a haze of Rebecca Black-esque FUN FUN FUN FUN! The second annual Strt-Crd was in the Maboneng Precinct and by the sheer number of people with hands in the air saying WHOOOOOOOO it was a really fun party.  NY based rapper Theophilus London was the headline act and he was frikkin awesome.  So awesome that my friend  planted a fat one on his cheek after bumping into him at Chalkboard!

And then my camera battery died and I went to have some seriously delicious pizza at Chalkboard.  It was a fun party although I didn't really like the ''street bash'' vibe.  I wish it would have been inside.  I felt a bit old for a street bash but that's just me! I missed the rest of Strt Crd because I was at Irene Market but apparently, everybody I have spoken to says it was boss! 

Do it like you're doing it for TV!

The one thing I like about this burgeoning blogging career is that the opportunities it presents are so unpredictable and can be so unprecedented! Like yesterday.  48 hours ago I was planning my week merrily and late in the afternoon got a call from someone who works as a digital agent with MTN and they wanted to know if missmillib would like to be in an MTN advert? I wouldn't have to do much, just be there because they want to slot my face in there! I've never even considered such things but I thought, what the hell, hell yeah! So off I went yesterday to Roodeport, a little out of my way if I may, to see what it was all about.  

I didn't even get a chance to greet everyone or to do make up or anything - I got there and they just said, jump in and dance! And act I did. I was dancing  as if my life depended on it and although it was awkward and I felt lame in the beginning, on the 3rd take I was actually having a good time.  The other extras were SOOO intense, especially when they could tell that the camera was on them, their facial expressions were so jika ma jika!  The ad's going live sometime in the next couple of weeks and I hope they will keep the shot with me in it - it's just a hello summer Tshisa Nyama on the street vibe.  Oh and I got to meet Ray Ray the Ayoba guy :-)

Confession. This is what I actually went to look for at the video store.

One of my favourite movies ever!  My best friend Choci and I were obsessed with Romy and Michele's High School Reunion when we were growing up.  Where on earth can I find it in Joburg?  I have looked in so many places and had to withstand judgment from video shop people for daring to ask for this movie. Up yours, these two are legendary. 

Weekend Movies

Yesterday I woke up to a day so beautiful, I wanted to take a snapshot of the view from my window.  But instead of going out to bask in the sun, I chose to curl up and watch some DVD's that I didn't manage to watch the day before, thanks to an over eaters anonymous meeting my friend Marion called when she came to visit with junk food in her trunk.  It was like a slumber party without the slumber.  

Anyway, so the next day I watched Somewhere, which I picked because I love Sofia Coppola and subsequently everything she does (safe for Marie Antoinette).  If you're looking for a story with a beginning, middle and an end, don't watch this movie.  If you're looking for the same voyeurism and nothingness she offered in Lost in Translation, you'll enjoy this.  I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of going through the mundane with Stephen Dorf and Elle Fanning.  Model Angela Lindvall has an incognito cameo in the movie and the end credits reveal that Francis Ford Copolla was an executive producer.
