A few months ago, I did a post about a friend of mine who had entered this year's Elle Rising Star Competition. Well, although she didn't win the competition, the very talented Sindiso Khumalo used the platform to launch her anticipated independent range, which as of this week is available on her spanking new website. The UCT (Architecture) and Central Saint Martins graduate's (MA Textiles) label is very textiles based, she prints and weaves the "Afro meets Bauhaus meets Pop" inspired fabrics which are evocative of fellow Saint Martins graduate and award winning London based designer, Jonathon Saunders.
Yes everybody, this is the kind of new young black designer coming out of South Africa post the post Apartheid aesthetic that was very indicative of the locale of its origin, a phase that had to happen to get to the point where we are now, where it's great to be from an African locale and to have an African disposition but with a global approach to the structure and fabrication of your collection . I can't wait to see this label grow from strength to strength. We are in talks about MeMeMe stocking Sindiso Khumalo but if you can't wait that long, visit her website for a kaleidoscopic retail experience of her Summer 2012/13 range shot by Brett Rubin. Well done my darling friend.
My sister is getting married tomorrow and I'm at home in East London faffing and fussing and being a very excited sister! This is the first time I have connected my computer since Monday. Will be back after everything on Monday!
Mornin Bitses! I have a new virtual crush (everyday), a photography blog called Fresh Wall Street published by photographer Allen Coleman who is no doubt the guy in the header who regularly posts pictures of his own outfits. By the looks of things, he travels around Africa documenting what we look like, at least the all the stylish youngsters who refuse to admit their hipsterness. He has a good eye for good looking people, go check out the rest here.
