Last night I got home and found this note very visibly stuck to the kitchen cupboard underneath which I left the iron yesterday morning. I am the world's worst ironer. I simply don't care for the task that I don't really even know how they are supposed to work. I'm more of a steamer girl. But for you Nana Zajiji, I will pour some water into him. I love you my friend. Her previous crimes, which are few and far between these days, are not closing cupboard doors. I would walk into the kitchen and all the doors would be open and there would be nobody there, as if a ghost is in the room.

Not mad about the cover but I really really do enjoy reading this quarterly. I found it while having breakfast at this new spot in Craighall called Warm and Glad. It should be at Exclusive and CNA too.
BRAIN FOOD
Tuesday, April 3, 2012
''We are born into a life. The life is wating there. We don't pick it, we step into it: parents, first born or last, the part of the country, the part of the world, our appearance, the efficiency of our brain. Then a time comes when we have to realize that we also have choices, and so we start the task of building our own life - an impossible task considering the number of days we are given to complete it. However, I don't think that's important; what is important is to begin." - Hugh Prather
BECAUSE I'M NOT DOING ENOUGH
Wednesday, March 28, 2012
SA Fashion Week starts tomorrow and I thought this the most appropriate time to tell you all that just in case I wasn't busy enough, I decided to start a whole new blog with my friend, photographer Chris Saunders. We are playing around with some names although there is one we really like and are launching it next month. We have started doing some work already. Using his unique skills with the camera and my fashion eye, we are going to take portraits of fitting people in Johannesburg and wherever the stories take us.
We are going to SA Fshion Week but are not going to focus on the ramp stuff but the people attending, the culture around such events, the undocumented moments such as the smokers corner, people's expressions on the front row, designers with models back stage, people who work in the industry and what they look like when they are at work. If we see something interesting, we shall get to work, if we don't, we will observe. On Sunday we spent some time with two really beautiful couples in their homes and we captured their best moments that afternoon. I do the text, he the images and the two so far are amazing. I think you guys will like it a lot.
He took this portrait of me when we first discussed the idea two weeks ago.
We are also going to do some street style all over, the townships, the city, the suburbs and portraits of people we find interesting, people that are tastemakers in this town. People whose presence will be felt and talked about 20 years from now. We are going to capture people in their church uniforms, people waking up after a night out, people at exhibitions. Just the beautiful people of this town and country.

I only found out while it was playing yesterday that the second episode of The Millenials on CNN aired yesterday. Check it out. I got advice from my friends to ''work on that face'' i.e. my super serious ''I'm working'' face and I must say, this time I'm much more relaxed. Check it out over hurrrr:

WEDDING OUTFIT
Saturday, March 17, 2012
I haven't been to a wedding since my cousin's wedding 2004 where I was a reluctant bridesmaid and had to relax my hair. All these years later, I'm going to my friend proper wedding in a very little town called Pennington in Kwa Zulu Natal. My wonderful friend Sindiso is marrying her long time English fiance, Edward at Lynton Hall. It's a very fancy affair and I've known what I'm going to wear since I received the invitation a few months ago. Here's the invitation pack and what I am going to be wearing this afternoon.
I bought the dress in Stanford in the Western Cape in a very dark and mothy vintage store. The lady who owns it told me the dress is a 1965 dress that was only worn a few times by its owner who last wore it to some horse race in Ascot in the late 60's. Even if it's not true, it a nice story to hear. I adore the sheer boleroesque jacket that goes with the dress. I borrowed a vintage ruby brooch from my friend Marion and I'm going to wear a beautiful Dorus Mhor bracelet with the outfit.

Ola Bitchez!
What a rough week I've had. Really good in most parts but tainted by the evils of bad service thanks to MTN. Oh my word, I can't cope. I've never been reduced to tears because of frustration at the level of peoples incompetence, their terrible attitudes and the fact that I have just signed a two year contract with a company that has real live mongoloids working for them. I will be writing MTN a letter this weekend and will publish it right over here. It's the only thing I feel I can do after being treated so badly, I don't think the upper echelons of the company will care. Anyway.
What else happened this week. Oh I was on CNN this week. It's shit watching yourself on TV so I've only seen the insert twice. I can't do anymore. I'm too embarrassed but very happy. Here's the link to the video if you missed it.

That was pretty cool. Thank you to everybody who cared enough to watch and say kind things to me afterwards and those that generally always support my ventures. I really appreciate it.
What else? I didn't feel like blogging with all that bad energy flowing around which is why I haven't posted anything since Tuesday. I'm much better now, have been doing a lot of deep breathing, house keeping and making out with a really nice guy. I've been battling with internet connection and I haven't had phone for about 4 days. I think the universe is trying to tell me something. So we shall take it a little easier this coming week!
Have a good weekend. MM

New hairstyle time. This bob has grown on me, didn't like it in the beginning. Doreen took this pic last week. Not from my camera but from my very cool iPhone 4s bitchez.
MAJOR NEWS TO WAKE UP TO
So CNN's Richard Quest show is launching a new series tonight called The Millenials. I don't know why I didn't share it here, but I'm one of 6 Millenials that will be featured on the show. In the past couple of weeks, I have told my story to CNN and have had a camera follow me around a few times. It all comes together in the first episode tonight featuring the the New York Millenial and the Joburg Millenial (me). It's on tonight at 9pm South African time on CNN (GMT 7PM). This is one of the most exciting things that's ever happened to me. Catch it if you can.
What is a Millennial? Watch this link. This conversation happened before the show launched and the lady in the video, Isa, is the one I've been dealing with at CNN. I can't upload the video unfortunately but here's an explanation of what the show is about.

So Nana and I invited some over on Saturday night after Sound Garden got washed away to next weekend. And I had fun playing with my new Olympus digital camera.

I’ve had a lot of free time lately, something very strange to me because I’m usually chasing a deadline. I’ve watched a lot of films, read some books and have been making more friends, which after age 21 is not easy. I’ve also been thinking about my blog. It’s pretty disorganised, a clear reflection of my life, believe it or not and I like it for my life but not for my blog. So I’m working on a few ways to change it up a bit, give it a bit of a boost because because. I’m buying a camera this weekend so the days of life undocumented are thankfully coming to an end. Hey, have a good weeked. I’m going to see the Blk Jks and Shadowclub tonight at Bohemian and tomorrow I’ll be at the shop doing my favourite thing: hearing customers say ‘’thank you so much’’ as they walk away with their sale items. Adios.
THIS IS SOME FUNNY SHIT

A friend of mine reminded me of this today. We used to watch this over and over a few years ago.
On my bedside table

I didn't set out to buy books whose covers happen to have my favourite colour, Mint Green on them. I only noticed this when I got home. When I was on holiday, I went to a really great, and I mean seriously wonderful bookstore called Hemingways in Hermanus. It's not the most accessible place old Hermanus but if you ever happen to drive through there on your way to some beautiful place in the Cape, I highly recommend you make a stop there. I've been keeping a bit of a low profile this year, haven't really been out much and it's because of these books. You can never read enough good books or listen to enough good music. I just wish there were more hours in the day.

For no apparent reason (either than that she thought she ''ruweened'' my pants), my best friend and house mate Nana just bought me these beautiful roses and some wine and a handwritten letter! I have some really special relationships with some really special human beings. Nana, I don't know what I would do without you. After 25 months of living together, every time I open the door to our apartment, I have a feeling of ''Yes, I'm home''. Every time. Thank you my friend and yes, I am fully aware that this post is going to embarrass you. xxx
DREAMS DO COME TRUE
Tuesday, January 24, 2012
This was the only thing I really wanted for Christmas. I didn't get it and was going to buy it for myself at the end of this month but I was visited by a little angel last week. My friend, Penelope is visiting from London and when we met for lunch last Sunday, she was carrying an unnecessarily big bag with a big box inside. When we sat down for lunch, she handed the faded green fabric bag with the box to me and said, here you go Mils, it's your Christmas present. She is a gift freak since I've known her so I knew it was going to be something special but not this special.
When I unwrapped the Christmas wrapping, I was assaulted by a bright gold shining light. The light of reason in my world. And three little words that made me very happy. Daisy. Marc. Jacobs. It's exactly what I wanted. Thank you my friend. I love you. As if that wasn't enough showering of love, she then proceeded with the following words: ''Ok Mils, now it's time to go down the list of reasons for why you are so awesome''. I said many a ''No please let's not''. But actually I was very happy that I have such a friend in my life.
